Two Dog Pond Necklace Contest - Last of 2010

It's the last week of the year... that's why I chose this image. Doesn't it look like they have reached the end of a hard day? Or just haven't shaved their legs in a year?
Here's the contest in a nutshell: Make a comment as to what you think is a perfect caption/quote/saying for this image. On Friday a winner will be chosen and rewarded with a soldered glass pendant of this image, your own quote, and a chain. Yeehaw!
Have a great last week of 2010!

Last Minute Gifts

Here's what I just made for some local nieces and nephews... a jar full of beer bread mix with the baking instructions tied on it...
I put the jars in some fruit baskets along with a beer and a couple jars of jelly I made. I also added a crocheted dishcloth (this year's obsession) and a Christmas bandana (for the yee-haw in all of us).

The Beer Bread Mix is from the Joy of Cooking Cook Book - it's my favorite, and because I love you, here it is:
QUICK BEER BREAD
1 cup whole-wheat flour
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
2 Tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
Add:
1 1/2 cups light or dark beer (but not stout), cold or at room temperature, but not flat.
Fold just until the dry ingredients are moistened. Scrape the batter into a greased 8 1/2 x 4 1/2 loaf pan and spread evenly. Bake at 400 degrees F until a toothpick inserted in teh center and all the way to the bottom comes out clean, 35-40 minutes. Let cool in the pan on a rack for 5-10 minutes before unmolding to cool completely on the rack.

A Lovely Tradition

My three sisters and I have a Christmas Tradition. We exchange ornaments every year. We live thousands of miles apart (OK, I do. They all live in Southern California) but our Christmas trees all have many of the same ornaments. "Sister Ornaments". Hanging these ornaments makes me miss my sisters. I have the best sisters ever...
anyway...
I like to make my ornaments - and thought I would show you what I made this year. (they have all received their ornaments already, so I'm not ruining any surprises.)
I used my favorite piece of stained glass, some 1" bevels and lots of copper wire - bent, smacked, torched, balled up, hammered flat.

assembled:

Two Dog Pond Necklace Contest - Friends on a Stick

This week's Two Dog Pond Necklace Contest image
is the result of me looking for a good image of friends. (an image of good friends?) When I came across this in my stash, I stopped. I love it. So, my blogger friends, it's now your turn. Come up with the perfect saying/quote/phrase to go with this image of friends on a stick and enter it here. On Friday, Christmas Eve, a winner will be chosen and rewarded with a soldered glass pendant.
This is a good diversion from the hustle and bustle of the holidays - at least for me it is. I hope you all have a wee bit of time for yourself this week. Relax for a few minutes and recharge. Sit naked with a friend with just one shoe on.

True Love Winner - Miss Kitty

This week's necklace contest winner is Miss Kitty with her sweet entry of "True Love can melt the coldest of Hearts". There were so many great entries that yesterday I had to call in help with choosing a winner. Several customer/friends at yesterday's show were commenting on the weekly contest and how much fun it is ~and~ how hard it would be to choose this week's winner. Lynnie from::Silverwork:: said that she would, without a doubt, choose Kitty's entry. It seems that everyone agreed! Congratulations to Miss Kitty - your soldered glass pendant on a 24" ball chain is on it's way.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by to see us and do a bit of shopping yesterday - love you all!

Bring your friends - Buy each other presents!

Two Dog Pond Necklace Contest - Snowman, Love, and a Dog

You just couldn't ask for more! Snowpeople coming to life and hugging to keep warm... and a dog {is that a snowdog?} with an umbrella... it's just pure Winter Magic. Welcome to the Two Dog Pond Weekly Necklace Contest. It's where your clever thoughts and comments become fun to wear soldered glass pendants... it's pure magic. Just leave a comment here as to what you think would be the perfect saying/quote/word/phrase for this image and on Friday a winner will be chosen and rewarded with a necklace. Hey, it's the week before Christmas - what else is there to do? (I feel a panic attack coming on...)

This Week's Winner - She Holds The Candle

This week's winner is Miss Nomaloke with her winning entry of "No one holds a candle to Frosty". First time I read her entry, sweet thoughts of "Oh she loves Frosty and there will never ever be another snowman as magically wonderful as him..." but by the time I was soldering the necklace my thoughts were more of the "You wanna piece of me? NO ONE holds a candle to Frosty!" hmmmm... anyway - dear kind Nomaloke, please e-mail me your mailing address and I will send you your winning pendant on a 24" chain.
My entry would have been "Sterling, Cooper, Draper and Frosty" Mad SnowMen.
...:::~*~:::...
Meanwhile - look what my hens are laying! It's like Easter every day!

Two Dog Pond Necklace Contest - Smokin'

This week's Two Dog Pond Necklace Contest image features one of the "Naughty" children we sing about... The contest is simple and fun and keeps your mind alert and working while sitting at your desk. Jot down clever ideas while you're in a staff meeting - wake up and have a clever idea come to you... feel inspired at all times of the day! Enter as often as you like. A winner will be chosen on Friday and rewarded with a soldered glass pendant on a 24" chain. For detailed 'rules' see the blurb over there>>>

...:::~*~:::...

Meanwhile - I've lost my voice. Laryngitis or an Act of God, I'm not sure. It's weird - can't answer the phone. The dogs don't 'listen' to me (Oh - like they ever did...) I feel like I'm trapped in a bizarre Mime World.

"GO! ENTER THE CONTEST"

(This is NOT the contest picture. Too Scary!)

Inside Outside

"Inside" I have some pieces of copper I've etched just screaming at me to make something...
"Outside" the pond is frozen with a smooth surface perfect for skating (except for that it's a thin layer and you would break right through)

"Inside" my workspace gets messier and more dangerous by the day as I am working on custom orders for Christmas and no one is cleaning up after me....

This Week's Winners - Times Two

I chose two winners this week, and even that was hard! There were lots of good entries that would have made great pendants... Here are the two I chose: Heatherj's "Magic comes in moments easily missed" and Natalie's "Naughty or Nice".
Turns out, I'm so worried about Santa skipping over my house this year (that whole "naughty thing") that I couldn't pick a really snarky one to risk further alienation by the jolly old man.
Ladies - please send me your mailing addresses and I will send you your soldered pendants.
Thank you everyone - have a "Nice" weekend.

It Worked! It Worked!

I just went out to do "chicken chores" and look what I found! A beautiful little green pullet egg!
Test Tube Baby rolled over to check it out....
I think there's a little jealousy going on... I'll have to assure Testie (I can't remember what we named it!) that I still love him/her.

Two Dog Pond Necklace Contest - Santa's Here

This week's Two Dog Pond Necklace Contest image is meant to make you giggle all day - after all, what must Santa be thinking? He probably wants to yell "BOO" and scare the bobmarley out of the woman sleeping on the chair! The contest is simple - submit a comment on what you think is a good caption/quote/hymn/phrase for this image. On Friday a winner will be chosen and rewarded with a soldered glass pendant on a 24" chain perfect for re-gifting! 'tis the season.
Keep it clean, Don.

This Week's Winner - One is Enough

Congratulations to this week's winner, The Coloradolady!
Hey lady - you won!
Rumple and Scootch helped decide who this week's winner would be - they liked "One is NEVER enough" the best. I agree. So, Miss Coloradolady, please e-mail me your mailing address and I will send you your winning soldered glass pendant on a 24" chain!
Thank you to everyone who entered - lots of cleverness going on again. I apologize that this post is so late - Black Friday wore me out (I even left a bag of electronics I had just purchased at the very first stop we made...) and yesterday I had a show to do. Tomorrow - a new image!
Thanks to all!

Absolutely LOVE It

Cheryl Darrow, from Ten Seconds Studio, is one of the most creative people in the World. I love her metal products and all the cool tools she sells. She's also a Movie Star. I look forward to Tuesdays every week to watch her and her sassy daughter Megan create more fabulous metal magnum opus (I just used a thesaurus) in entertaining and fascinating ways.
Imagine how excited I am today.
A package just arrived from Ten Second Studio. In it - a Custom Made For Me creation made by Cheryl Darrow. Look at some of these details: 2DP (Two Dog Pond). Too Clever. My name:
Cheryl FREEHANDED this:
(Please, oh please, Cheryl - make a Big Daddy Bazooka Mold of your fancy script)
I know. it's a Kabuka.
Beadwork on the edges.... Cool decoupaging and beautiful paint textures and techniques.
"Is there nothing this woman can not do?"
I immediately hung it above my workbench (which I cropped out of the photo because it's a dangerous mess right now...)
Look at her use of framing materials!

I LOVE it. Absolutely LOVE it.
Thank you, Cheryl. You Rock.
...:::~*~:::...
This is the necklace I traded Cheryl for the Artwork. She saw a similar one on my blog... the rest is history.
Look closely at this week's Taco Tuesday Video and you will see that Cheryl is wearing the necklace!!
Another thing to be thankful for....

Creative Women I've met through this blog.

You're all wonderful.

Thanksgiving Preparations

Today, in preparation for tomorrow's holiday feasting, I am preparing some of the dishes. So far, I have my olives soaking in vodka, and in the event that you might have forgotten to do that, thought I would post this gentle reminder. They are much better if you start soaking them the day before. This is my personal stash. It's just not good to be caught drinking at 9am, but no one seems to notice if you are enjoying an olive or two every ten minutes. Just make sure you have a good reason in the event you are caught drinking the "olive juice" right out of the jar. My sister's excuse? "Oh. I had a grueling workout this morning and need to replace my sodium". Enjoy, and you're welcome.
...:::~*~:::...
I know you miss seeing pictures of my chickens.
This is Buff Daddy:
He is a 'fancy' rooster.
These are some of my hens and Shizzle Frizzle the other rooster.
None of my hens are laying eggs yet.
I would like to do an experiment, and need everyones help. Please close your eyes and put it out there in the universe that these hens will start laying on Thanksgiving morning. I'm curious if it will work....
Now - I'm off to make Scotch Ice Cubes for the Thanksgiving Scotch Drinking Family coming over.
I love the holidays!

Two Dog Pond Necklace Contest - Puppy Love

This week's necklace image is just exactly what we all dreamed of when we were little. Puppies for Christmas! Two Puppies~that would grow up to be Two Dogs~and a Pond! OK - that was my dream... The contest has nothing to do with me (ha ha ha) but has to do with YOU coming up with a clever saying for this image. Enter as often as you wish - don't be shy! Come back and read what everyone else enters - it will keep you smiling! On or around Friday morning (depending on how early I get back from Black Friday Shopping) a winner will be chosen and rewarded with a soldered glass pendant on a 24" chain.
Special thanks to everyone who made Saturday's show such a Whopping Success! Holy Cow! I couldn't believe how many of you shopped and bought! I love you guys!!
THANK YOU.

This Week's Winner - Disguised Angels

Congratulations to Miss Mary for her winning suggestion of "All God's angels come to us disguised." Isn't that so true? Even those little stinkers in the picture are really God's little angels... Mary - send me your mailing address and I will send you your winning soldered glass pendant on a 24" chain. I made three extras to take to tomorrow's show, in case anyone is interested.
Speaking of tomorrow's show - last night I made these earrings out of resistors and African Trading Beads. So different yet so alike...
Is it just me? Would you wear them? I will...

'Tis The Season

This Saturday is the big craft fair in Seward - I never feel like I'm ready for it - it sneaks up on me every year. How does that happen? This morning - I am totally enjoying the preparation. The sun is shining in on my desk and I am adding glitter to beautiful images to be made into Christmas pendants. Christmas music is playing softlyin the background...the dogs are sleeping. Life is good.
I'll go into panic mode tomorrow.
If you are in the Seward area, the Craft Fair is Saturday at the Fairgrounds from 9am - 4pm. I will be in the new Harvest Hall (where the food is!). I would love to see you! Come out and enjoy the day. I heard yesterday that all the booths are full and there's a waiting list.

ummm...I'm starting to panic...

Two Dog Pond Necklace Contest - Little Angels

This week's Two Dog Pond Necklace Image is these two sweet little angels. I colorized their pretty little rose crowns and promise to add some glitter to their wings... I also promise to choose a sweet and unsnarky comment for the backside. It just wouldn't be right to have a sassy comment go along with these little princessgels (my new word for princess angels). Or would it?....
Enter your comments and suggestions for the backside of this adorable image and on Friday a winner will be chosen and rewarded with a soldered glass pendant on a 24" chain.
Love you all!

This Week's Winner - 'Tis the Season

My sister Rhoda from Southern California is visiting Two Dog Pond for a few days. She was on the panel of judges for this week's Necklace Contest and chose Emakesart as the winner (yes! She won a couple months ago!) Rhoda is a wonderful singer and so saw these children as caroling which then led her to choose Emakesart's suggestion of "Fa La la La La, blah blah blah blah."
"Tis the season to win jewelry; fa la la la la, blah blah blah blah."
That song is now stuck in my head like a brain worm....
Miss Esther of Emakesart, please e-mail me your mailing address again and I will ship out your new soldered glass pendant on a 24" ball chain.
Congratulations!

Trunk Show Today

Since the Two Dog Pond Trunk Show tonight is at a winery, I thought it was appropriate to make a few more Drink It*Break It*Wear It bracelets to take along. I am also taking tons of soldered glass pendants and one of a kind metal jewelry as well as fused glass pendants. It's the start of the Holiday Shows for me!!
If you live anywhere near Pawnee City, Nebraska, come on out to Schilling Bridge Winery and Micro Brewery... They are having wine tastings and offering 25% discounts on mixed cases of wine! Click on the top picture of the wine bottles to see their website.

Two Dog Pond Necklace Contest - It's Gonna Snow

It's going to be 75 degrees at Two Dog Pond today - pretty much unheard of for November in Nebraska. I'm not complaining - I love it!! BUT - it's making it hard to solder all my Christmas trees and Santa pendants for upcoming shows... Sooner than later it will start snowing again - so I'm using this adorable image of children in the snow for this week's Two Dog Pond Necklace Contest. The contest remains simple: enter as often as you like or just once - read the comments daily to see just how clever you all are - on Friday a winner will be chosen and rewarded with a soldered glass pendant on a 24" ball chain. There is more contest information over there>> on the side bar if you like to read.

Today - I'm wearing sandals. By Wednesday? Probably snow boots... you just never know here on the plains of Nebraska.
It's all good.

New Bracelets

My sister was out thrifting and found an old 'conch belt' and sent it to me... it was made from really hard metal, not like the flimsy ones popular in the 80's... So - I got out my metal baseball bat and some duct tape and a mallet and set about to putting a bit of a curve into each link. I fused some glass cabochons (took three loads to get the ones I liked), soldered around them, soldered some bits onto the links, drilled some holes, blah blah blah - and there you have it! Six new bracelets:

There is a seventh one, but I had to order more lobster clasps...

Thank you, Bonnie! I love it when you go out hunting for treasures!

This Week's Winner Shoots Like A Girl

This week's Two Dog Pond Necklace Contest Winner is Miss Steph with her entry of "Shoot Like A Girl". {she actually said "Yes, I do shoot like a girl" and I took the liberty of shortening it...} She had several other clever comments that everyone liked, "The Ultimate in Feminine Protection" being one of them. She is good. I liked the PMS comment by Bernie too! And - Lee's poem. What a hard time I had picking a winner this week! Miss Steph - please e-mail me (rachel@twodogpond.com) your mailing address and I will send you your soldered glass pendant on a 24" chain before you can load your pistol and shoot the neighbor's cat off the fence.
I'm getting ready for a couple of shows coming up and haven't been faithful about posting... 'tis the Season... I'll post pics of the new bracelets I'm making soon. I promise. You will love them.
or not.
I do...

Two Dog Pond Necklace Contest - Just Shoot'em

This week's Two Dog Pond Necklace Contest features my favorite subject: women with guns. The contest is one of my favorite subjects too! Here's how it goes: you make comments here as to what you would be a good caption/quote/scripture for this image. Check back often to see what other people wrote and get your laughs for the week. Seriously - there are always great comments made by clever entrants all week long! I love it!
On Friday a winner will be chosen (this is the hard part because of how many great comments there are...) The winner will be rewarded with a soldered glass pendant on a 24" ball chain. It's fun and much easier than shooting a coyote trying to steal your favorite lamb...
