Yesterday's Thrift Store Find Necklace

Using one of the pulleys I bought yesterday (see the post below) and a little slide which I soldered between some glass, I made an upcycled necklace from my new treasure pile!
If you look closely at the slide, you'll see three Bongos (the animal, not the drum). The slide is from Series 6, Number 5. Here's the description that is on the slide viewer thing...
"The Bongo lives only in the forests and bamboo thickets of Africa. The color of its skin helps to hide it in the forest. White hunters can rarely find the Bongo."
I kid you not.

Thrift Store Finds

Yesterday I stopped at the local thrift store (etc.) and found a bag of little pulleys and a bag of 3D type slide things (OK - no idea what they are called) with descriptions written in French and English. I am adding these wonderful finds to my stash of things I want to make jewelry out of... I also found an old dictionary with some great illustrations to scan and use.
Now - if I could just find a big box of time...

Two Dog Pond Necklace Contest - A Girl And Her Horse

This week's Two Dog Pond necklace image came from my Hooker Friend, Judy. Is that not the biggest horse you have ever seen? Or is it the little girl ever allowed to ride a horse.... anyway, the contest is simple - submit comments on what you think would be a good caption for this picture. On Friday (or Saturday since I have an appointment on Friday...) a winner will be chosen and rewarded with a soldered glass pendant on a 24" chain. Enter as often as you would like! It's free. It's Fun. It's rewarding!

This Week's Winner - Little Sinner

This week's winner was a no-brainer!! The choice was made especially easy since so many of you loved Bernie's submittal of "I feel a sin coming on". That is exactly what this little girls face looks like! Perfect, Miss Bernie! Thank you -
I will put your soldered glass pendant on a 24" ball chain and mail that to you just as soon as I hear from you as to what your mailing address is!

Two Dog Pond Necklace Contest - She's an Angel

This week's necklace image is a sweet little girl dressed up like an angel....a closer look, though, reveals a bit o' the devil in her eyes.
The contest is simple and yet amazingly fun to play: think of a saying/quote/word/phrase that you would like to see with this adorable old photo. On Friday a winner will be chosen and rewarded with a soldered glass pendant on a 24" chain.

"Come On In", said the little frog.

Tim and I were mixing up some cement for a new flagpole yesterday. A couple of stray flying blobs of cement landed right in my eye, so I blindly went for the back door to get to some water. The door handle didn't look quite right - - - ...here is the photo lightened up so you can see (better than I did) Kermit trying to peek through the door...
Newsworthy? Probably not. But anytime something makes me shriek, I like to share it.
(Because I don't like to squish little frogs, I went through a different door to irrigate my cement crusted eye, then came back and took the photo - I knew you wanted to know...)

This Week's Gnarly Winner

Hey folks. This is Rachel's son Jonathon - I was asked to pick out a winner for the weekly contest while I'm back home visiting Two Dog Pond. I am honored. Reading through the quotes you lovely ladies picked gave me a pretty hearty chuckle, and I had to go with a submission by Mary, "Gnarly on my Harley." I've always been a sucker for the word gnarly, and if I can do anything to spread gnarly awareness, I'm all over it. So Mary, if you'd send my mom your address, she'll have your necklace out in the mail ASAP. Congrats!

Two Dog Pond Necklace Contest - Wild RIde

The time of year (in Nebraska, anyway) is perfect for motorcycle rides. Big blue skies, pleasant temperatures, 35 mile an hour winds... makes me want to put on my green jumpsuit and jump on the back of a big green bike with Tim. Closest I'll get is mowing the lawn on the little green tractor. Anyway - here is this week's necklace image. The contest is simple: make a comment (or 5 or 6) on what you think is a perfect caption for this image. On Friday a winner will be chosen and rewarded with a soldered glass pendant on a 24" chain.
Thank you for playing! Your comments make me laugh, and I know they make others laugh too, so enter often! Invite your friends! Pimp it on your blog - whatever you want to do! It's always good to make each other smile and you are good at it!

This Week's Winner - Come and Get It!

Congratulations to those clever Summer Kitchen Girls for their winning entry in this week's necklace contest! They submitted "come and get it" which is exactly what that cowboy is doing! There were some other really good entries making it a difficult decision to choose just one winner, but girls - this is just seductively perfect! E-mail me with your mailing address and I will get your winning pendant in the mail on a 24" ball chain.
...:::~*~:::...
On a completely different note - It's no secret that I am quite uncoordinated, so I embroidered myself a coordination bag hoping this would help with my "hand to eye" coordination.
I crack myself up....

What did you do today, Rachel?

I've been playing with fine silver again. I made myself this ring with my new mantra on it. "Be where you are." Hopefully it will help me to remember to focus on what I'm doing right now. Enjoy it. Live it. I put little screw looking doodads on it because I felt like it.
I made this necklace with some tiny orange gemstones I bought in Seattle and can't remember what they are. There are also freshwater pearls dingly off in non-asymetrical fashion. The pendant is another piece of fine silver I made this week. Swirls are good.
This necklace is red glass seed beads and turquoise. There are 3 little silver beads that 'wink' when you wear it. sort of. The pendant is a piece of fused glass I made.
Then I painted my toenails purple. It's been a good day.

Layers of Goodness

It's a bit blurry, but I just scored two little metal suitcases and three vintage wooden boxes and one glass flower frog at Gatherings Shed Sale all for $14.25. I am so stinking lucky.
...and - I am now done making jelly. I kept dumping the little bit at the bottom of the pan into this jar every time I finished a batch. This is a delicious Rootin'Tootin'Grape/SourCherry & Wild Plum/White Grape/SourCherry&Niagra White Grape jelly.

Two Dog Pond Necklace Contest - Turnin' Up the Heat

This morning I am canning my last two batches of jelly - That's why I chose this image. I'm pretty sure that's how Tim and I look... ha ha ha ha (I am wearing an apron!)
The contest is simple... You comment on what you think would be a perfect caption for this image. Enter often or just once - a winner will be chosen on Friday and rewarded with a soldered glass pendant on a 24" chain. There are more 'rules' posted off on the side>>>
Now - back to the kitchen to make some Sour Cherry Niagra Grape Jelly. Yummy.
What are you doing this glorious Labor Day?
Don't forget to plant your garlic today! Barefoot Lady told me to plant it on Labor Day and harvest it on the 4th of July for the best garlic.

It's TOO SCARY!

This week's necklace contest winner is Miss Heatherj with her entry of "When things get too scary just turn the page and move on." She's a practical gal. Love it! Heatherj moves a lot - she wins a lot, but she moves a lot! Heatherj, please e-mail me your newest address and I will mail you your winning soldered glass pendant on a 24" ball chain!
...:::~*~:::...
Have a great holiday weekend! I'm starting mine right by going to visit Miss Lynn at Silverworks!
