Two Dog Pond Necklace Contest - Swan Ride

This week's necklace image might remind you of a childhood vacation or one you took with your children... or not. Anyway - think of a clever saying/comment/phrase/quote/word for this image and submit it here - as many times as you would like. On Friday a winner will be chosen and rewarded with a soldered glass pendant on a 24" ball chain. Just lovely. There are 'rules' posted off to the side, feel free to read them... or not.
It's going to be (fingers crossed) 70 degrees here today - first time since September (that's 7 months ago) and I plan on being out in it. Until I see a snake. Then I'll be back in my studio soldering.

You, My Dear, Are the Blue Ribbon Wiener

Shara, of Monkeybox, is this week's Two Dog Pond Necklace Contest Winner with her entry of "Blue Ribbon Wiener". WooHoo! Congratulations on a tough week to win! There were lots of great suggestions and I think everyone showed great restraint and immense cleverness with the comments they made. Way to go. You're all weiners - but only Shara is getting the prize. So Shara, pat yourself on the back and send me your mailing address - because you, my dear, are a Blue Ribbon Wiener!

Two Dog Pond Necklace Contest - Beware!

As requested, this week's necklace contest image is a, ummm, blue weiner. The image is from an old Beginning Dictionary for the classroom first published in 1945. What were they thinking? Your assignment is to come up with the perfect caption for this image. Be it a quote (although I'm sure that Ghandi didn't say anything about a blue weiner...) a phrase, or a word, enter it here. Enter as often as you like, just keep it safe for all eyes to read. We don't want to burn any retinas.
Happy Birthday, Leah!

Fairy Therapy

LynnW is this week's winner with her entry of "Sometimes all we need is someone to listen." There were lots of other good suggestions, but c'mon! Frogs don't kiss fairies - they kiss Princesses. That's why I like LynnW's suggestion... Here's how I would imagine the Fairy Therapy would go:
"... and after she kissed me I asked her if she would like to go back to my place and she said, "oh, can two people fit under a rock? That's right - you're not a PERSON - you're a frog! and who knows where that tongue has been?" and the conversation just got uglier from there... what am I doing wrong?" asked the frog.
"Be true to yourself and find a nice tadpolette" said the Fairy Therapist.
...anyway - Miss LynnW, please e-mail me your mailing address and i will send out your soldered glass pendant on a 24" chain!
Thanks to everyone who played! Great comments - -
Remember - If he's not a Prince the first time you kiss him, he probably never will be.
Speaking of Princesses.... Sweatshop Baby was here yesterday. Look at her grow!
BONUS ACTIVITY...for more fun and games, go visit Birthday Girl, Leah's Blog - Moxie Photo and Design -
She's giving stuff away because it's her birthday! Know what I'm giving her? On Monday, the necklace contest image is going to be her request - A Blue Wiener... I sense trouble.

The Local Thrift Store

This morning I stopped at etc., our local thrift store. I bought two things. 1. A 1976 Beginning Dictionary because it had some bizarre illustrations. 2. A GIGANTUOUS bag of Cowboys and Indians.
The top of my printer:
"Stop eatin' our Reuben Sammiches. It's St. Paddy's Day."

She's Fowl

This week's winner was really hard to choose. There were a lot of good entries both sassy and serious. I just kept coming back to "Such a Fowl Girl"... Isn't that great? Sounds bad, but it's such a sweet complement. I would like to think that I'm a Fowl Girl since I have/love my chickens. I do believe that Little Messy Missy, this weeks winner, has/loves her chickens too. So - here's to anyone who's Fowl... and that's pretty much all of us, because admit it - if you don't have chickens or geese or ducks, you want them don't you?! Little Messy Missy - e-mail me ( your mailing address and I will send your Fowl soldered glass pendant on a 24" chain right out to you.
Meanwhile - my studio is the messiest it's been in ages. I'm getting ready for tomorrow's show and don't feel like cleaning up. Maybe next week. I'm posting this picture so that you will all feel so much better about your workspace - there's no way it could be as bad as this!

On Friday a winner will be chosen and awarded with a soldered glass pendant hanging on a 24" chain. There are complete 'rules' listed off the the side. Thank you, and now - go make stuff.

More Adventures With Metal

Yesterday my order from Ten Second Studio arrived. I was in the middle of painting my nails and getting ready to take a power nap before we went out to dinner with friends, but that was all derailed when I opened the box of beautiful Spice Metal (it comes in many delicious colors) and Kabuka #10 and a paper stump .... I missed my nap to start playing right away.

After using the paper stump to rub most of the imprint on the metal, I dug through my old supplies and found an embosser to finish the details. (Ten Second Studios sells the correct tools - I was just using what I had on hand)

After sanding the metal down and then bending it around a piece of board I cut out, I decided to rivet some round metal doo-dads and a metal fish I caught on fire to the piece.
This is the 'shrine' that it's going to go of my flea market finds that is waiting for me to finish. When I watched Cheryl and Megan from TSS on last week's Taco Tuesday video demonstrating the Kabuka #10, I decided I had to try that! Now I intend to mount the metal piece and surround it with glass mosaic. The piece that's cut out will have mirror mosaic in it. It might be a long time before I finish that part, so I thought I would show you as far as I am and leave the rest up to your imagination.
Now - we're off to see Johnny Depp in Alice in Wonderland. You should go watch Cheryl and Megan's videos and be inspired and buy their products.

My Adventure with Copper Clay

Perhaps I shouldn't even admit when I do these things, but thought maybe someone would have some helpful advice for me... (like "maybe you should stick to soldering glass") I bought some Art Clay Copper....
...shaped it into many doo-dads, mostly bails (bales?) for the tops of pendants...

..fired it in my kiln...

...quenched it in water and then pickled it....

...admired my pile of crappy copper doo-dads...

..polished a few and got some of the black and red crust off....
OK - I like the copper leaf.
Obviously I am doing something wrong. Any suggestions?

Necklace Contest - Needing a Vacation?

This week's necklace contest image is pretty much how I feel right now... like I need a warm beach vacation but I'm not really ready....
Anyway - make a suggestion for what you think would be the perfect caption/quote/word/ for the back of this image. On Friday a winner will be chosen and awarded a soldered glass pendant hanging on a 24" chain. Complete rules are listed on the side >>>
Meanwhile - the weatherman said that March is coming in like an Angry Lamb. Hope your 'neck of the woods' brings bright and sunny skies.
